NEWPORT, R.I. -- Team captains Jack Naglieri (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) and Liam Cooney (Portsmouth, R.I.) represent Salve Regina University men's lacrosse as 2024 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans.

The USILA honor was started in 1989 to award student-athletes with exceptional performance on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The organization's selection committee recognizes teams across Division I, II and III. Athletes must be nominated by their coach, hold a GPA of 3.0 or above and qualify with a senior or graduate academic standing.

"We are very proud of Liam and Jack being named USILA Scholar All Americans," said head coach Patrick Cooney. "As education majors they are local ambassadors for the University and Salve Athletics. Both have had tremendous careers as student-athletes at Salve. We are ecstatic to have both captains return for a fifth year."

Cooney holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education and history. He has served four years as a member of SAAC, Mosaic and the Student Education Association. He was a student ambassador in 2023 and orientation leader in 2022 and 2023. He was named to the All-CCC team his sophomore and junior years.

Naglieri graduated this May with degrees in elementary education and special education. He was named to the CCC All-Academic team his sophomore and junior years. He has served two years as a member of SAAC. He was a 2023 USILA All-American long stick midfield honorable mention and 2023 IMLCA Regional All-American long stick midfield honorable mention.

With Naglieri and Cooney's help the Seahawks advanced to a conference quarterfinal in the team's inaugural season in the NEWMAC
