Treacy and Naglieri net four goals each, Seahawks fall 19-14 to Camels

NEWPORT, R.I. (Monday, March 11, 2024)-- Men's lacrosse closed their deficit to within two of the Connecticut College Camels (10-8) going into halftime after the Camels were the first to score in the game. However, with a successful third quarter the Camels extended their lead to a 19-14 victory.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Last matchup: Since the 2007 spring season Salve Regina is 0-3 against Connecticut College. The last meeting was a 15-5 loss for the Seahawks on March 9, 2009. 

BREAKDOWN: 

  • 1H: No less than 30 seconds into the day the Camels were the first to score, from the sick of Declan Kuhn. Seahawks Daniel Naglieri (from Jack Naglieri) matched the camels 50 seconds later, for a 1-1 score. Daniel Naglieri would go on to score three more times in the encounter. The Camels went on a run to put away five consecutive goals. Christopher Bethoney (from Max Beauchamp), Chris Koltzan (from Justin DeBalsi) and Daniel Naglieri added to Salve Regina's total, intermixed with two more Connecticut College goals, making it an 8-4 game going into the second half. To begin period two, the Seahawks went on a three-goal run. Chris Koltzan (from Daniel Naglieri) started it off, followed by Justin DeBalsi (from Brendan Treacy) and Daniel Naglieri. The Camels slowed down Salve Regina's advances after netting two goals with under six minutes remaining in the half. However, with goal one of Brendan Treacy's four goal afternoon, Treacy hurled the ball in from the top of the defensive area. The Seahawks trailed 10-8 with half of the game remaining.
  • 2H: The turning point for Connecticut College came in the third period when the Camels achieved a 15-8 lead. Again it was Brendan Treacy (from Chris Koltzan) who broke the streak, with the sole Seahawk goal in the third quarter. Although the Camels fired off three goals in quick succession to begin the fourth quarter, Liam Cooney (from Max Beauchamp), Daniel NaglieriMax Beauchamp (from Brendan Treacy) and Brendan Treacy (from Chris Koltzan) scored four unanswered goals, still trailing 18-13. Each side upped the total by one for a 19-14 final score. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Seahawks' William Kein served in net for the full 60 minutes. Kein made 14 saves on 33 shots on goal.
  • Kieran Hughes was 16-32 on the face off.
  • Both teams launched 48 shots on goal. 
  • Daniel Naglieri and Brendan Treacy found the back of the net four times each. Chris Koltzan scored twice.
  • Together the Seahawks put up nine assists. 
  • Each team picked up 18 ground balls.

Men's lacrosse will host the United States Coast Guard Academy at Toppa Field on Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m.
