THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Saturday, February 24, 2024)-- Salve Regina men's lacrosse lost by a narrow 8-7 margin to SUNY Maritime in nonconference action on Saturday despite scoring three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: SUNY Maritime 8, Salve Regina 7
Records: Salve Regina (0-2,0-0 NEWMAC), SUNY Maritime (2-0,0-0 SKYLINE)
Last matchup: Dating back to the 2017 season, Salve Regina is 2-2 against SUNY Maritime. The last meeting was an 11-8 loss on April 7, 2023.

BREAKDOWN:

The Privateers were dominant in the first fifteen minutes of the affair. SUNY Maritime posted four consecutive goals in 11 minutes. However, Privateers' Collin Brush was called for slashing and Seahawks' Max Beauchamp (Daniel from Naglieri) capitalized on the man up opportunity to get the Seahawks on the board before the end of the first quarter. The Privateers scored twice more in the second quarter, but Salve Reginas' Chris Koltzan and Liam Cooney (from Brendan Treacy) provided a countermove. The Privateers were ahead 6-3 going into halftime.

Max Beauchamp got the second half started, but his efforts were soon followed by two Maritime goals. It was the last fifteen minutes that served as a breakout quarter for the Seahawks. Stephen McAllister (from Brendan Treacy), Max Beauchamp (from Daniel Naglieri) and Liam Cooney (from Daniel Naglieri) brought Salve Regina within one point of Maritime with one minute remaining on the board, however it just wasn't enough time for the Seahawks to pull even with the Privateers. Two out of the three fourth quarter goals occurred on a man up opportunity.
