BIDDEFORD, Maine – Defending Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Men's Lacrosse Tournament Champion Endicott will be the preseason favorite heading into the 2022 season as it earned the most points in the poll conducted the league's nine head coaches earlier this week.

The Gulls received 78 points in the voting, including six of the nine first place votes.

Those Golden Bears will look to return to CCC Championship game for the 11th season in a row this year. They landed second in this year's voting with 75 points and the remaining three first place votes. They will be looking to recapture the league's top-spot after having their efforts at a three-peat thwarted last season.

Last year's CCC Tournament Semifinalists, Roger William and Salve Regina, landed in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots in this year's poll with 58 and 56 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Curry claimed the No. 5 spot with 47 points to round out the top five.

Closing out the poll were Wenworth (33 points), Nichols (24), the University of New England (20), and Gordon (14) in that order.

Head coach Patrick Cooney begins his 19th season at Salve Regina and returns a deep and experienced group for 2022.

Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.), the program's all-time leading goal scorer and three-time All-CCC performer, returns for a fifth season and will look to become the all-time points scorer as he leads the Seahawks this season.

Leary was named a captain for the third consecutive year while teammates Ryan Chambers (Wakefield, Mass.), Rich Gneiding (Oradell, N.J.), Ryan Reilly (Hingham, Mass.), and Brendan Treacy (Danvers, Mass.) each earn their first captaincy.

Chambers will assume the role of starting goalie this season after posting four starts in 2021. Fellow senior Gneiding and juniors Reilly and Treacy will help anchor a deep midfield group.

The 2022 men's lacrosse season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 19 as four teams begin their non-conference slates. They will be gearing up for the start of the conference season that begins on Saturday, March 26. The top seven teams as the end of the regular-season will qualify for the 2022 CCC Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, which begins with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, April 30. The tournament will continue with the semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 and the CCC Championship game on Saturday, May 7. The winner of the CCC Championship game will be named the 2022 CCC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Champion and earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship.
