Cougars come back to hand Seahawks first loss

UNION, N.J. – Brady Moore and Jake Frankovits combined for nine goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team rebounded from an early deficit to defeat Salve Regina University, 16-8 on Saturday afternoon.

Moore finished with eight points on five goals and three assists, while Frankovits tallied four goals for the Cougars who improve to 3-0 overall. Brendan Kelly and Ethan Robson each totaled three goals for the Seahawks who fall to 4-1 overall.

Kean fell behind 4-1 in the opening nine minutes, before scoring nine straight goals to take a 10-4 advantage with just under 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.  Moore notched five of his eight points during the run with three goals and two assists, while Frankovits tallied a hat-trick as well.

Salve finally broke the streak with a goal 30 seconds later, but Moore and Frankovits each added another goal to push Kean's lead to 12-5.

Despite the Seahawks scoring three goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest, the Cougars added insurance goals from Cole Hinds, Kyle Ryder, Moore and Justin Arredondo.

In goal, Thomas Francy made 13 saves and collected five groundballs in 60 minutes of work between the pipes for Kean. Connor Cunningham made 25 saves in the loss for Salve Regina.

Salve Regina returns to action on Wednesday, March 11, with a home contest versus Saint Joseph (Long Island) at 4 p.m.
