Hawks rally from three-goal deficit to stun Seahawks, 7-5

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Sophomore Cole Bell (Davenport, Iowa) scored his second goal of the season with 1:31 remaining in regulation to snap a five-all tie and propel the Becker College men's ice hockey team to a 7-5 win over Salve Regina University in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action Sunday afternoon at Portsmouth Abbey Arena.

Sophomore Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) dished out three assists for the Hawks (6-9-2, 3-1-2 ECAC), who rallied back from a three-goal second-period deficit to extend their winning streak against Salve Regina to six games. Junior Patrick Bellow (Newington, Conn.), sophomore David Graham (Rancho Cucamongo, Calif.), and freshman Korby Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) each tallied a goal and an assist for the visitors. Seniors Billy Sabia (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.), along with sophomore Jacob Hutt (Menlo Park, Calif.), each had a goal and an assist for Salve Regina (1-11-1, 1-4-0 ECAC), which lost its fourth-straight game.

"This is a tough loss for us, but we're taking steps in the right direction," said Salve Regina head coach Andy Boschetto. "We need to play a full 60 minute game, and we're not quite there yet. When we get there, we're going to be very good…and we're not far away."

The game was tied at five for the first 18:29 of the third period before Bell took a pass from freshman Michael Hollander (Ontario) and beat freshman netminder J.C. Turgeon (Sherbrooke, Quebec) to give Becker its first lead of the afternoon, 6-5. Less than a minute later, sophomore and leading-scorer David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) sealed the win with an empty-net marker at 19:18.

The Seahawks outshot the Hawks 43-35 and built a 5-2 second-period lead behind Sabia's two tallies and goals from seniors Pimental and Joe Colaianni (Monroe, N.Y.), and freshman David Watkins (Natick, Mass.). After Watkins made the score 5-2 in favor of the home team, Becker head coach Steve Hoar called timeout. The Hawks responded by pouring in three goals in the final 14:24 of the period to even the game at five through 40 minutes. Bellow started the comeback with his third marker of the season at 12:26, and 30 seconds later, sophomore Alex Young (Lynnfield, Mass.) banged home his second of the season to cut the deficit to one at 5-4. Sophomore Mark Lotito (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied the game at 19:24 of the stanza with his fifth goal of the season.

Junior Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) made 38 saves to earn his fifth win of the season for Becker. Turgeon, meanwhile, stopped 28 shots. The Seahawks converted on one of their five power-play chances with the Hawks went scoreless on three PP opportunities.

The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday when they host Connecticut College at 8:05 p.m. The Hawks host Suffolk Wednesday night at 8:20 p.m.
