Connecticut College blanks Seahawks in non-conference action, 10-0

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. Junior Sean Curran (Wilmette, Ill.) scored three goals and freshman Kevin Kelly (Harrisburg, Pa.) racked up two goals and two assists to lead the Connecticut College men's ice hockey team to a 10-0 win over Salve Regina University in non-conference action Tuesday night at Portsmouth Abbey Arena.

Senior Joe Capuano (Melrose, Mass.) dished out three assists for the Camels, who improved to 5-6-3 on the season and 5-0 all-time against the Seahawks. The loss extends Salve Regina's (1-12-1) losing streak to five games.

Senior Jordan Gray (Mississauga, Ontario) and junior Lucas Chavira-Schramm (Orono, Maine) each dished out a pair of assists for the Camels while juniors Chris Fogg (East Sandwich, Mass.) and Mike O'Donnell (Winchester, Mass.) each recorded a goal and an assist.

The Camels scored five goals in the first period and four more in the second, giving them a 9-0 lead through 40 minutes of action. Freshman Ernest Foss (Rochester, N.H.) started in goal for the Seahawks and allowed three goals on nine shots before being replaced by sophomore Mike McDonald (Whitby, Ontario) midway through the first. He finished with 26 saves.

Freshman Michael Petchonka (Ridgefield, Conn.) picked up his first collegiate win for the Camels, stopping all 22 shots he faced before being lifted in the third for classmate Marcus Calvanico (Flower Mound, Texas).

"I don't think we brought it. If you don't bring your 'A' game every night and you don't play Salve hockey, you're not going to win games," said Seahawks head coach Andy Boschetto.

Connecticut College outshot the Seahawks 42-28 and went 3-for-4 with the man advantage. The Seahawks, meanwhile, were unable to convert on four PP chances.

Salve Regina returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Milton, Mass. for a 4:35 p.m. contest wth Curry College. The Camels host Colby Friday at 7 p.m.
