Foss, Holske keep Seahawks and Penmen tied, 2-2

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - A pair of first-year goaltenders combined for 70 saves while allowing two goals apiece as Salve Regina University and Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey battled 65 minutes for a 2-2 tie in non-league action.

Ernest Foss

Salve Regina (1-7-1) had its goaltender, freshman Ernest Foss (Rochester, N.H.), hold an opponent under five goals for the first time this season and under three goals for the first time in the last 19 games (2-0 loss at Becker College, Jan. 20). His opposite number, freshman Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.), stopped 50 shots for the Penmen who earned their second-straight draw after battling Stonehill College to a 5-5 final five days ago.

Seahawk first-year defenseman Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) registered his first-career goal when he drilled his shot from the back right over Holske's right shoulder. Freshman forward Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.) set up Hollenshade's tally with a pass from the same side in close.

Southern New Hampshire evened the score when freshman forward Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) re-directed a pass from sophomore Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) at 9:23. Three minutes later the Seahawks went up by one again after freshman David Watkins (Natick, Mass.) scored his second goal of the year. Senior Lee Trott (Rehoboth, Mass.) picked up his first assist of the season.

Carbonneau scored the game's final goal on a power-play at 14:25 of the second period, with assists from Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) and Chris Hickey (Gilford, N.H.). Both goaltenders combined for 34 saves after the scored was knotted at 2-all, including six stops in overtime.

"Our guys played great," said first-year Seahawk head coach Andy Boschetto. "I was impressed with all our freshmen, and of course their (Penmen) freshman goaltender. The officials called a great game while allowing us to play."

Salve Regina will next play in the Plymouth State University Invitational on Thursday, December 30 against the host Panthers. Southern New Hampshire (2-6-2) hosts Johnson & Wales in Manchester this Thursday.
