Pilgrims blank Seahawks, 9-0

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College's men's ice hockey used a balanced scoring attack to lift them past the visiting Salve Regina Seahawks Tuesday night at the Lee Clement Arena.

 

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 2-1-0 overall, while the loss drops the Seahawks to 0-3-0 on the season.

 

NEC's Brett DiClementi (Southwick, Mass) started the scoring just 6:42 into the first period putting in a pass from Phil Moore (Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia). The Pilgrims extended their lead to 2-0 just six minutes later as Jared Mullen (Roanoke, Vir.) scored his first goal of the season assisted by Bill McGinnis (Williams Lake, British Columbia).

 

The Pilgrims went up 4-0 early in the second as Artur Kochuev (Sanit Peterburg, Russia) and Jarkko Leppanen (Tampere, Finland) scored back-to-back goals within 17 seconds of each other. NEC grabed another score late in the second period as Mullen converted on a Pilgrims power-play opportunity putting NEC up 5-0 heading into the final period.

 

NEC tacked on four goals in the final period, including three in the final four minutes of play, capturing the 9-0 victory.

 

NEC's Jared Mullen finished with two goals, while Ilester Little (Dallas, Texas) and Brett DiClementi each scored a goal and dished out three assists. Bill McGinnis finished with three assists for the Pilgrims.

 

Leading the way for Salve Regina was Brett Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) who recorded three shots on net for the Seahawks.

 

Picking up the win in net for NEC was Sebastian Anderson (Sundyberg, Sweden) who finished with 13 saves. In goal for Salve Regina was Ernest Foss (Rochester, N.H.) who recorded 36 saves on the evening.

 

NEC returns to action on Friday, Dec. 3 when it travel to take on conference foe Tufts University. Salve Regina will hit the ice on Saturday, Nov. 27 squaring off against UMass-Boston in the PAL Cup hosted by Southern New Hampshire University.
