Leopards run past Seahawks, 10-3

BOSTON, Mass. - Ten different players scored goals while senior forward Jeff Olitch (Calgary, Alberta) had a career-high four assists as the Wentworth hockey team downed Salve Regina, 10-3, in an ECAC Northeast contest played at Matthews Arena.

 

The Leopards scored three times over a span of 6:28 in the first period to take a 3-0 lead as freshman defenseman Dylan Barbieri (Plainville, Mass.), freshman forward Anthony Principato (Holmdel, N.J.), and sophomore forward Casey Shade (Anchorage, Alaska) each had goals while Olitch had a pair of assists. The Seahawks got on the board with 2:29 left in the period on a junior forward Joe Colaianni (Monroe, N.Y.) goal.

 

Wentworth scored two power-play goals in a 2:00 span early in the second period, beginning with a sophomore forward Forrest Ellis (Pembroke, N.H.) goal just 18 seconds into the period and followed by a sophomore forward Skylur Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) marker at 2:18. Sophomore defenseman Alan Dionne (North Scituate, R.I.) had a helper on each of the goals. Freshman forward Mike Marrocco (Braintree, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 6-1 lead when he was set up by Olitch and Jameson at 8:32 before Salve Regina trimmed the lead to 5-2 with a power play goal from senior defenseman Nathaniel Burns (Sandwich, Mass.). Freshman forward Mark McKamey's (Powell River, B.C.) first career goal, with 2:25 left in the period, rounded out the second period scoring and gave Wentworth a 7-2 lead.

 

Sophomore forward Mike Paglino (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.), junior forward Geric Brodt (Anchorage, Alaska), and freshman defenseman Shaun Jameson (Long Beach, Calif.) added third period goals for Wentworth before sophomore forward Christian Scully (Franklin, Mass.) tallied a power--lay goal with 3:41 remaining to round out the scoring.

 

Skylur Jameson had a goal and two assists to help pace Wentworth's offensive attack, while Shade, Dionne, and senior forward Michael O'Brien (Royersford, Pa.) each had two assists on the night.

 

Freshman netminder Michael Jarboe (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) made 20 saves on 22 shots in 50:32 of work to remain undefeated (5-0-0) on the season. Junior Matt Buchan (Lebanon, N.H.) saw his first action of the season, playing the game's final 9:19 and making six saves on seven shots. Sophomore Ben Bradley (Newburyport, Mass.) took the loss for Salve Regina as he allowed four goals on 10 shots over 20:15. Freshman Bobby Baylis (West Haven, Conn.) played the final 39:42, making 18 saves on 24 shots. For the game Wentworth outshot the Seahawks by a slim, 34-29 margin.

 

Both teams step out of conference on Thursday night. Wentworth (13-2-1, 6-1-0 ECAC Northeast) is at Stonehill while Salve Regina (1-16-0, 0-7-0) hosts Assumption.
