Five on the NABC Honors Court for the Seahawks

Salve Regina University men's basketball has once again earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and the Seahawks had five players qualify for the NABC Honors Court.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Monday, July 20, 2020) -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the 2019-20 NABC Honors Court, recognizing more than 1,350 men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. Salve Regina University men's basketball has once again earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and the Seahawks had five players qualify for the NABC Honors Court.

Quote from head coach Sean Foster '97"I am extremely pleased that so many of our upperclassmen have achieved NABC Honors Court recognition. Drew, Thor, Cam, Kevin and Steve set the tone for our group in a variety of majors by prioritizing a high level of academic focus.  They have exhibited tremendous leadership in the classroom under difficult circumstances.  I could not be more proud of our players and their achieving a superior level of academic success at a very challenging institution.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award is an outstanding honor and is the result of the dedication all of our players have put into their academic pursuits all year; especially through the adversity of distance learning in second semester where we earned a 3.57 Team GPA. Our group has prioritized the mission of Salve Regina University within the community, on the court and in the classroom and I can't wait to see their future growth."

The NABC Honors Court highlights the talents and gifts that these men possess on the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

  • Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
  • Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2019-20 academic year.
  • Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
  • Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
