NEWPORT, R.I. (November 19, 2019) - Salve Regina University sophomore Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) shared game-high scoring honors (19 points) with Stevenson University senior Mark Terrell (Warrenton, Va.), but the visiting Mustangs men's basketball team (3-1) defeated the Seahawks (0-3) by eight points (83-75).

First ever meeting between the two schools in any sport as the squad from Owings Mills, Md., began its five-game road trip by winning its third straight game.

Both teams had three players apiece in double-figure scoring totals as Norman Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) tallied 18 and Kyle Wooldridge (Stewartstown, Pa.) was perfect from the floor (4-for-4) and seven of eight from the free throw line for the Mustangs. Juniors Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) and Stephen Natola (Exeter, N.H.) chipped in 16 and 13 points, respectively for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks trailed early, 5-2, before an 8-0 run ignited by back-to-back threes from Natola and senior captain Andrew Bronstein (Needham, Mass.) gave Salve Regina its largest lead. The game was tied four times and there were four lead changes, all in the first half.

Cam Harris (Aberdeen, Scotland) and Cornelius Bobo (Tampa, Fla.) both had a pair of threes during a 17-4 run for Stevenson which built a 22-14 advantage with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Salve Regina's longest run (9-0) put it back on top after a pair of free throws by Thor Brochu (North Kingstown, R.I.).

The Mustangs outscored the Seahawks, 21-13, over the final 9:24 of the first period; Hughes had a pair of treys in that run. Both teams got 17-point production from the bench, but Stevenson's depth (six reserves to Salve Regina's three) took its toll.

Spencer led all players with eight rebounds including three on the offensive glass. Jaylin Johnson (Detroit, Mich.) topped all Mustangs with six boards.

Salve Regina's deficit was 10 points (77-67) with just under two minutes left in regulation when Kelly and Spencer fired in threes to cut it to four, but the visitors made six free throws and the Seahawks had just one layup by Kelly for the final margin.

Salve Regina (0-3) will host Suffolk University on Saturday at 1 p.m.; Stevenson (3-1) travels to Scranton, Pa., to face John Jay in the Holiday Inn Express Electric City Classic hosted by Marywood University.
