NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University men's basketball team hosts Newbury College at 3 p.m. at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, R.I., on Saturday, December 1, in non-league action.

DUDLEY, Mass. - Salve Regina University sophomore Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) had his straight game with 21 points but the Seahawks lost their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener against defending champion Nichols College, 106-79.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Senior Kevin Mannix and junior Andrew Bronstein are serving as captains for head coach Sean Foster in his 17th season.
  • Two weeks ago, Salve Regina also scored 91 points in games it won against Bridgewater State (91-81) and Colby-Sawyer (91-82) to capture the Cave Classic hosted by the Bears.
  • Jonathan Friberg went 7-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the line for 17 points against Bridgewater State.
  • Mikey Spencer had 18 points against the Bears and followed that with a school-record 38 points (for freshmen) against the Chargers in the championship game of the Cave Classic.
  • Cameron Collins has posted 21 points in back-to-back games for the Seahawks.
  • Salve Regina has four players averaging double-figure scoring - Spencer (16.8), Collins and Kevin Kelly (12.5), and Friberg (12.3).

NIGHTHAWKS NUGGETS

  • Newbury men's basketball has scored at least 91 points in all four of its games this season.
  • Omar Williams (32.8 ppg) and Pierce Weatherspoon (21.8) account for more than half the Nighthawks' scoring this season.
  • Tim Deng (13.3) and Francisco Santiago (11.0) are also producing double-figure scoring for Newbury.
