Scales named TCCC Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman Trey Scales (Boston, Mass.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Scales averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a week in which the Seahawks posted a perfect 2-0 record. He came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points along with three rebounds and three assists in a 73-67 win over Roger Williams. In the next game, Scales earned a start and responded with a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds in an 83-78 victory at Colby-Sawyer. On the season, Scales is averaging 7.0 points and 3.1 rebounds.

His selection marks the third time this season a Seahawk has been honored by TCCC. Earlier this season, graduate student Jabreche Boyd (West Haven, Conn.) and junior Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) each earned TCCC Player of the Week honors; Royce was selected on Dec. 14, and Boyd on Jan. 25.

The Seahawks (4-17, 3-6 TCCC) - who have won two-straight for the first time all season - return to action tonight when they travel to Milton, Mass. for an 8 p.m. contest with Curry.
