Boyd named TCCC Player of the Week

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's basketball graduate student Jabreche Boyd (West Haven, Conn.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Player of the Week.

Boyd averaged 30.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to help the Seahawks post a 1-1 record last week. He began the week by drilling seven three-point field goals en route to scoring 26 points and snaring five rebounds in an 84-70 win over Nichols on Wednesday. Three days later, he poured in a career-high 35 points in a loss to Western New England. He netted 27 of those points in the second half, knocked down three three-pointers, and drained 14-of-19 of his free throw attempts. He finished the week shooting 58 percent (17-of-29) from the field, 71 percent (17-of-24) from the charity stripe, and 50 percent (10-of-20) from behind the arc.

On the season, Boyd is averaging 17.3 ppg, which is tops on the team and ranks him fourth in the conference. He also sits fourth in three-pointers made (42) and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (39.3 pct.) in the conference.

Boyd becomes the second Salve Regina men's basketball player to earn TCCC Player of the Week honors this season; in December, junior Dan Royce (Mahwah, N.J.) garnered the same honor. Last week, women's basketball junior Erin Phillips (Morristown, N.J.) was named TCCC Player of the Week.

The Seahawks (2-14, 1-4 TCCC) return to action Monday night when they travel to Wesleyan (Conn.) for a 7 p.m. contest.
