Timms, Cody, Febus keep Seahawks close until second-half surge

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England scored four times during a 12-minute span in the middle of the second half to pull away from Salve Regina University to a 7-2 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action Friday evening (Sep. 27) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.

Jillian Lachapelle produced a personal-best three goals for the Nor'easters (5-5, 4-0 CCC), including two around halftime to give the hosts a 3-1 edge. After the Seahawks cut the deficit to one midway through the 3rd on a tally by Ashley Cody, Kendra MacDonald tacked on a pair and Julia Steeves netted one before Lachapelle capped the night with six minutes remaining.

Reanna Boulay, who notched to opening marker at the end of the 1st frame, assisted on all three of Lachapelle's to equal the program single-game record. Nine performances now share the standard; the previous was last season by Boulay's older sister, Kersey.

Salve Regina pulled even in the 2nd quarter on a goal by Eliza Timms, but that lasted all of 92 seconds before Lachapelle established UNE's lead for good.

The Nor'easters closed with sizable advantages in shots (32-7) and penalty corners (17-7) to win their fourth straight outing and ninth consecutive meeting with the Seahawks. Lachapelle, MacDonald, Haylee Angster, and Lindsay Bruns also recorded helpers to support the UNE attack. Liz Sargent and Julia Gordon combined for three saves between the pipes.

Casey Febus posted nine stops for the visitors.
