Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior forward Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal late in the third quarter to help the Salve Regina University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth in non-conference play Thursday evening.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina is 7-4 all-time versus the Corsairs and has won two in a row in the series.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina senior Ashley Cody scored what proved to be the game's deciding goal in the 44th minute.
  2. Salve Regina freshman Casey Febus (Soudertown, Pa.) made five saves to improve to 3-1 in the cage for the Seahawks.
  3. UMass senior Eliana Stormwind (Littleton, Conn.) scored the first goal of the season for the Corsairs in the 35th.

Turning Point
Salve Regina took the lead in the third quarter when Hannah Bedrosian (Seekonk, Mass.) scored in the 33rd to break a scoreless tie, Stormwind answered for the Corsairs two minutes later to even the score once again. The Corsairs had two corners shortly afterwards and a chance to take the lead, but Febus denied the only shot on goal she saw during the sequence. After a Corsairs turnover the Seahawks quickly worked the ball up the field and Cody executed a give-and-go with Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.) to free herself up the left side in the attacking zone. Cody cut towards the goal and had her initial shot stopped, but was able to corral the rebound and punch it home for her fourth score of the season. The Seahawks defense stifled the Corsairs in the fourth quarter, only allowing one shot for the visitors to hang on and win by the 2-1 final.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina outshot the Corsairs 24-8 and 11-6 in shots on goal.
