NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team earns the No. 4 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships and hosts No. 5 Roger Williams University. For the Seahawks, they will be playing the Hawks for their second consecutive game after clinching the home playoff contest with a 3-2 win at Bayside Field last Wednesday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Seahawks split the season series with the Hawks with a 3-2 decision at Bayside Field on Wednesday, October 24. Salve Regina came away with the first score of the game in the 12th minute. Ashley Cody (Pawling, N.Y.) got possession in the left side of the arc and knocked a shot into the right corner of the goal for her 34th tally of the year.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • The Seahawks clinched a home playoff game with their 3-2 win at Bayside Field last week in Bristol.
  • Ashley Cody added two goals to her league-leading 35 on the season in the victory over the Hawks.
  • Cody was voted as the league's Offensive Player of the Year in 2018, one year after sister Amber earned the same honor.
  • Ashley Cody has set school records for points in a game (11 - at Johnson & Wales, Oct. 18), season (81), and goals in a season (35).
  • She was joined on the All-CCC squads by teammates Hannah Filiault and Eliza Timms.
  • Timms is tied for fifth in goal scoring with 16 in her first season.
  • Senior goaltender Ally Daly ranks fourth in CCC in saves (133).

HAWKS HERALD

  • The Hawks ended their three-game losing skid in the series with a 6-4 decision at Gaudet Field on Sept. 26.
  • Freshman Brooklyn Cenatiempo totalled four goals in her two games against the Seahawks. Her 15 goals rank seventh in the league overall.
  • Freshman Callie Flanagan ranks third in CCC in saves (135) and save percentage (.726).
  • Midfielder Sydney McCarthy and back Alex Coppinger, both juniors, represent Roger Williams on the All-CCC squads.
  • The Hawks, 1-6 in their last seven games, have dropped six one-goal decisions in 2018 including three that have gone to overtime. Two of those were decided on penalty strokes.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina and Roger Williams are meeting for the 13th time in field hockey; this is the first postseason meeting between the two programs. The Seahawks own a 10-2 advantage in the all-time series, and have won four of the last five over the Hawks since 2016. This season the Seahawks and Hawks split the home-away series, each winning on the other's turf.

Winner advances to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) semifinal on Thursday, November 1, against top-seeded Endicott College (7 p.m.).
