Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Summary
The Endicott College field hockey team advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 2 seed Salve Regina University Wednesday night at Gaudet Field in the semifinals.

Series and Streaks
Endicott leads the all-time series, 25-7, and has won 16 of the last 18 meetings. The Gulls have also won all five postseason meetings in the series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Endicott senior Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) - scored two goals (six and seven on the season), first half on a penalty stroke and second half giving the Gulls a 4-0 lead
2 – Endicott junior Francheska Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) - made seven saves in a surprise start.
3 – Salve Regina junior Erin Gendreau (Sandwich, Mass) - controlled the midfield and also scored Salve Regina's only goal of the game. Seahawks averted their first shutout of the season.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina had not faced a penalty stroke until its last two games. While the Seahawks were 0-2 on the season in their own penalty strokes, their opponents are a perfect 2-2 in penalty strokes, including Ashleigh Allen's with under two minutes remaining in the first half.

Turning Point
CCC co-defender of the year, Ashleigh Allen, got the call on the second penalty stroke of the season for Endicott at 33:12. She converted her second attempt (2-for-2) to record her sixth goal of the season and give the Gulls a 3-0 lead going into the break.
