WENHAM, Mass.—Salve Regina scored once in each half, which was enough to down Gordon 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey action at the Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday. The Fighting Scots' defense held steady for a majority of the match, but they could not press the Seahawks on the other end in the Senior Day loss.

Lydia Ellsworth (West Chester, Pa.), Carissa Fraser (Seaford, N.Y.) and Collette Newcombe (Rowley, Mass.) were all honored following the game for their four-year contributions.

The Seahawks came into the contest as the highest scoring offense in the CCC and they showcased why in the early stages. Salve Regina earned 17 penalty corners throughout the contest, nine in the first and eight in the second half.

Luckily for the Scots, Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) and Bailey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa.) teamed up to make a wall in front of the net. Hicks was able to stuff four shots in the first 15 minutes of the game, while Balmer also made a nice tip away for a defensive save.

However, Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) made it 1-0 Salve Regina in the 17th minute. Lindsey Mazzola (Upton, Mass.) settled a ball after a penalty corner and sent a blitzed shot toward the goal. Tepper was able to tip it over the stick of Hicks for the eventual game-winner.

Salve Regina had two more near perfect chances later in the half, but the Scots talented junior defender, Balmer, saved both.

Gordon's defense held strong again to begin the second half, but the constant waves of Seahawks eventually broke through in the waning minutes. Once again, Mazzola was at the forefront of a nice penalty corner play and the senior midfielder pummeled a ball into the fray. Lindsey Venuto (Foxboro, Mass.) got a poke on the attempt to knock it against the back wall of the goal.

Salve Regina outshot Gordon 24-0 in the game, 17 of which were on frame. Hicks made 11 saves in the contest, while Balmer was credited with four defensive saves.

The Seahawks will look to continue their tear through the conference on Tuesday when they travel across the state to Roger Williams. Salve Regina has won 10 consecutive games after starting the year at 3-2. They also hold a 7-1 record in the CCC.
