NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University sophomore Jessie Severino (Branford, Conn.) as its defensive player of the week for field hockey (September 28 - October 4).

Defensive Player of the Week - Severino collected five saves with a 0.59 GAA in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks. In an 11-0 victory over Nichols, she made two saves in 50 minutes of play. In a 6-1 triumph over Roger Williams, Severino tallied three saves.

"Jessie has stepped into a starting role for us this year and is doing a great job leading our defense. She is not afraid to direct her teammates and her athleticism brings a lot to our defensive unit." – head coach Jennifer Foster

Salve Regina (8-2, 4-1 CCC) vaulted into second place in the league standings and take a five-game win streak to play at Western New England University on Tuesday.
