DANBURY, Conn. -- After finishing the regular-season with a 12-5 record, Plymouth State University was selected as the No. 1 seed in the 2014 ECAC Division III New England Field Hockey Championship. The tournament is a five-team field with a quarterfinal round followed by a semifinal and championship round.

In the first-round contest on Wednesday, November 12, Salve Regina University (13-7) will host Anna Maria College (13-9) at Gaudet Field at 6 p.m.

The Seahawks make their first-ever ECAC postseason appearance in field hockey while facing a familiar opponent. Both Salve Regina and Anna Maria were charter members of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in 1984; the AMCATS left the league for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 2011. Before its departure, Anna Maria had lost five straight field hockey meetings to Salve Regina; the Seahawks own a 10-4 mark in the all-time series which meets for the first time at Gaudet Field on Wednesday.

The first-round winner will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, November 15, hosted by Plymouth State. The winner of Salve Regina University/Anna Maria College will face Plymouth State in one semifinal and Johnson & Wales University and Gordon College will meet in the other semifinal.
