WESTON, Mass. – Salve Regina University's Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) scored three goals and added an assist for a seven point day as the Seahawks defeated Regis College, 8-1, on Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action. Salve Regina improves to 6-4 on the year, while Regis falls to 0-9.

Burke started the scoring in the game as she received a ball through the Pride defense from Julia Grover (Cotuit, Mass.) and blasted a shot far post to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. Grover then entered the scoring column nearly eight minutes later as Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.) found Grover in front of the net for a goal to make it an early 2-0 lead for Salve.
Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) cut the Pride deficit in half as she scored off the stick of Cheyenne Genga (South Windsor, Conn.) to make it 2-1. Salve's Bucci added a goal in the 31st minute to put the Seahawks back on top by two as Grover and Burke picked up assists on the play with some nifty passing.
The Seahawks entered the half with a 3-1 advantage on the scoreboard as Salve Regina outshot the Pride at a 15-5 clip. Meanwhile, the Pride attempted five penalty corners to Salve's four. Regis' Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) made four saves in the period, while her counterpart Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) turned away a pair of shots.
The second half was all Salve Regina as the Seahawks tacked on five more goals en route to the 8-1 win. Kelly Burke scored two more goals to record a hat-trick, while Bucci also tallied again for a six point day. Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) came off the bench to score the final two goals of the game for the Seahawks. Heather Kapatoes (Hopedale, Mass.), Marissa Gagnon (Smithfield, R.I.) and Allison Gold (Greenlawn, N.Y.) all recorded assists for Salve Regina.
The Seahawks held a 28-15 edge in shots for the game, while Regis held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners. Raegan Heck falls to 0-6 with the setback, despite making nine saves. Salve's Murphy McCann improves to 6-4 in 2012.
