MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Sophomore forward Casey Clark (Bethlehem, N.H.) led the visiting Nor'easters with three goals and an assist as the University of New England field hockey team defeated Salve Regina University, 7-1, during a Nor'easter at Gaudet Field. It was the final regular season contest for both teams before the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships begin next week.

The host Seahawks honored their three seniors – Samantha Dalton (Falmouth, Mass.), Sophie Eldridge (Eastham, Mass.), and Michelle Massey (Mendon, Mass.) - prior to the contest.

Salve Regina (5-12; 1-9 CCC), which was eliminated from postseason after its loss to Gordon last Wednesday, got on the board first today in a steady downpour that increasingly worsened. Sophomore forward Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.) handled a pass from freshman Alexandria Rizzo (Hopedale, Mass.) and scored the goal to stun University of New England.

The Nor'easters (17-2; 9-1 CCC), who had survived a Seahawk scare during the previous meeting on Sep. 24 (5-4 in Biddeford, Maine), got the equalizer from Clark less than four minutes after the Bucci goal.

The foul weather prompted both teams to agree to a very brief intermission at halftime with the score deadlocked at 1-1.

The Seahawks kept it that way for over 11 minutes into the second period, but then the floodgates opened and University of New England continued its assault for seven unanswered goals. Laura Egounis (Boscawen, N.H.) gave the Nor'easters their first lead at 46:46 when she converted a penalty corner with a hard drive from just inside the circle to the goalie's right.

Clark followed with two more goals, including a backhanded tally off a rebound. Clark then assisted Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, Maine) for a 5-1 advantage.

A pair of seniors, Brianna Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) and Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) finished the scoring in the final 10 minutes. Kaitlyn Warren (Bowscawen, N.H.) made six saves in the win for University of New England.

Seahawk freshmen Murphy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) and Jaclene Fleming (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) combined for seven saves in the defeat.

After tying Endicott College in the regular season standings, the Nor'easters get No. 2 seed in the CCC field hockey championships behind the Gulls who earn the tiebreak with a better goals against total (7 to 17).
