Allan, Burke lead Seahawks past AMCats, 6-0

PAXTON, Mass. - The Seahawks of Salve Regina defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS 6-0 on a dreary Saturday at AMCAT Field. The Seahawks improve to 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the TCCC, while the AMCATS fall to 4-12 on the season and 1-7 in the conference.

Seniors Kelly Moriarty (Leicester, Mass.), Angela Guiffrida (Leicester, Mass.), and Jessica Standish (Barnstable, Mass.) were honored before the game, celebrating the final home game of their career as part of Senior Day.

After going back and forth for the opening minutes of the game, the Seahawks took control and never looked back. Junior Ali Capagna (West Hartford, Conn.) got the Seahawks on the board with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute of play. Within the next three minutes, freshman Kelly Burke (Georgetown, Mass.) scored two unassisted goals to put the Seahawks up 3-0. Freshman Kelly Allan (East Killingly, Conn.) soon added another goal, and then assisted on another to junior Brittany Lopes (Lexington, Mass.) to close out the scoring in the first half. As the fog started to lift and the rain picked up, the first half ended with the Seahawks leading 5-0.

The second half was a quiet one for both teams, as the lone goal came off of the stick of freshman Kathryn Pellegrini (Newton, Mass.). The goal came 15 minutes into the second half and was assisted by senior Andrea Michel (Yarmouth, Maine). Salve Regina held on for the shutout victory by the final score of 6-0.

The Seahawks were led by Burke, who came into the game tied for the conference lead in goals, and now has an impressive 15 tallies on the year. Kelly Allan also played well for the Seahawks, adding a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.) and freshman Natalie Balleta (Leominster, Mass.) combined on the shutout for the Seahawks. Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Boykin was busy in net for AMCATS and had seven saves on the day.

Anna Maria will be back in action on Monday, facing ECSU on the road at 3:30 pm. Salve Regina will wrap up their regular season Wednesday when it travels to UMass Dartmouth.
