SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Saint Joseph's shuts down Seahawks, 3-0

STANDISH, Maine - Saint Joseph's topped Salve Regina, 2-0, in a non-conference field hockey match at Lakeside Field on Monday afternoon. A pair of seniors - Kerrie Boutin (Georgetown, Mass.) and Julia Ostrowski (Albany, N.Y.) - netted goals in their final regular season home contest and Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, Maine) collected her 11th marker of the season in the triumph.

Saint Joseph's (9-2) held a 9-3 advantage in shots while Salve Regina (6-7) held a 4-3 edge in penalty corners in the losing effort. Senior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.) made four saves in net for the Seahawks.

Boutin kicked off the game scoring in the 20th minute with her third goal of the season. The score prove to be the game-winning tally, Boutin's second such goal of her career. Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, Maine) recorded an assist on the play.

The 1-0 lead held until the 50th minute when Nowell doubled the SJC cushion with a goal on the left side of the Salve net off a Sarah Bartell (Exeter, N.H.) crossing pass. Ostrowski capped the game scoring five minutes later with her team-leading 13th goal of the year. Bartell recorded her second helper of the game with a crossing pass from Eppley's right.

Prior to the contest, the six Saint Joseph's College seniors - Boutin, Ostrowski, Allison Zellers (Concord, N.H.), Jillian Kimball (Albany Township, Maine), Kim Glynn (Danvers, Mass.) and Jaimee Brett (Otisfield, Maine) - were recognized for their accomplishments during their four years to date under Head Coach Rupert Lewis. Through 11 games this season and 69 in three-plus years, this senior group has posted a 44-25 record and a .638 winning percentage, both senior-class program highs.

St. Joe's will now embark on a six-game road trip, beginning with a match at Salem State on Thursday at 6:00 PM, to play out the string for the 2009 campaign. Salve Regina will host TCCC opponent Endicott College tomorrow at 4:00 PM.
