SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Field hockey honored by NFHCA for second-consecutive season

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University field hockey team has been recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as one of 95 NCAA Division III programs to post a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

"This team academic award is a great accomplishment for our program and an award all 25 student-athletes were a part of," said head coach Jennifer Eldridge. "We stress every season that our players are students first, and we expect success in the classroom and on the field. I know our girls work hard studying on bus trips, and they also go to the library before and after practices and games. To receive this recognition from the NFHCA proves that our players know how to balance both their academic and athletic commitments all season long."

Salve Regina - which received the same honor from the NFCHA last season - was one of just four schools from The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) to be honored, along with Endicott College, Gordon College, and Nichols College.

The Seahawks finished the 2009 season with an 8-11 record, an improvement over last year's 7-13 mark.
