College Sports Communicators recognize eight Seahawks with Academic All-District®

Seahawks recognized include seniors Avery Arno, Sam Capodice, Garrett DeForest, Jacob Dubois, Matt Heverin, Ryan Janz, Zachary Ludemann, and junior Brayden Schuster, as Salve Regina has now produced nine Academic All-District® honorees dating back to 1995.

NEWPORT, R.I. (Tuesday, December 19, 2023) - The Salve Regina University football team had eight student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team, as released this afternoon. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District® honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and a starter or significant reserve.

Seahawks recognized include seniors Avery Arno, Sam Capodice, Garrett DeForest, Jacob Dubois, Matt Heverin, Ryan Janz, Zachary Ludemann, and junior Brayden Schuster, as Salve Regina has now produced nine Academic All-District® honorees dating back to 1995. This marks the first year the Seahawks have placed eight on the Academic All-District® Team.

Kevin Gilmartin's squad capped its season with four straight wins including their first-ever New England Bowl championship, 37-34, against visiting Anna Maria College. The Seahawks went 9-2 in 2023, and 6-1 in their first season in the NEWMAC, while posting a program-record four shutouts.

Previous Academic All-America® honorees include Justin Hackley (1996), Mark DeBiasio (1998, 1999), Luke Arnold (2000), and A.J. Albert (2011).

Avery Arno (Sr. • defensive back)

Sam Capodice (Sr. • special teams)
Berlin, Connecticut
Major: Nursing

  • New England Bowl Most Valuable Player
  • Place kick holder for all 11 games

Garrett DeForest (Sr. • special teams)
Whately, Massachusetts
Major: Administration of Justice

  • NEWMAC Special Teams Player of the Week (10/30-11/5)
  • Had blocked punt and touchdown return against Maritime (N.Y.)

Jacob Dubois (Sr. • defensive lineman)
Cheshire, Connecticut
Major: Accounting

  • Played in all 11 games with 45.0 tackles including three sacks among his 6.5 tackles for loss yardage
  • Forced one opponent fumble and picked off a pass with a return of 35 yards

Matt Heverin (Sr. • offensive lineman)
Robbinsville, New Jersey
Major: Business Administration

  • Seahawks averaged 157.3 rushing yards per game

Ryan Janz (Sr. • running back)
Fairfield, Connecticut
Major: Business Administration

  • Played in 10 games with 36 carries for 165 yards and one touchdown

Zachary Ludemann (Sr. • linebacker)
