LAST TIME OUT
The Seahawks lost their opener as Norwich escaped Toppa Field with a 22-19 victory. Jacob Burke blocked a potential game-tying 28-yard field goal attempt by kicker Angelo DiSanto with seven seconds remaining as the Cadets held on for the three-point victory. Joey Mauriello netted 140 yards on the ground while Ronnie Martin finished with 84 yards rushing. Tyler McGovern completed 18 of 42 passes for 180 yards with three interceptions.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

ABOUT THE RED HAWKS 

  • Montclair State fell last week at Southern Virginia, 34-21. MSU turned the ball over four times and gave the Knights several short scoring drives.
  • Quarterback Ja'Quill Burch threw for a career-high 363 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times.
  • Wide receiver Kason Campbell hauled in seven of those passes for 139 yards while Craig Merkle rushed for 75 yards as Montclair put up 469 yards of total offense in the game.
  • Zack Zaccone registered 10 tackles and two pass breakups for the defense with Adens Georges collecting eight tackles.
  • Rick Giancola, Division III's winningest active coach, enters his 37th season at the helm of the program.

INSIDE THE SERIES
In last year's loss against Montclair State, Brendan Nunes caught a career-high 10 passes for 119 yards, including two touchdowns (one in each half). In 2017, after trading scores for three quarters the Salve Regina football team scored the only points of the fourth quarter, forcing visiting Montcalir State to punt on three straight possessions and throwing a pick on the final pass of the game to earn a 26-20 victory at Toppa Field. The Red Hawks lead the all-time series, 4-2.

Montclair plays its third-straight road game on Saturday, September 28 at Hobart (1 p.m.); Salve Regina has its first game away from Toppa when it travels to Dean College in Franklin, Mass., next Saturday, September 21 (12 p.m.).
