Football team leads bone marrow registry drive on April 18

NEWPORT, R.I. - "Get in the Game: Save a Life," a national registry drive for bone marrow donors, will be held on Wednesday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rodgers Recreation Center.
NEFC to restructure in 2013

NEWPORT, R.I. – New England Football Conference (NEFC) Commissioner Sue Lauder has announced that the conference will be restructuring prior to the 2013 season. The NEFC will become an eight-team, one-division league and will still retain its automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Salve Regina, MIT top NEFC in academic honors

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University football team had 22 players named to the 2011 New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic team on Thursday afternoon, ranking the Seahawks second to only MIT (28) in All-Academic selections among the 16 NEFC institutions.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior A.J. Albert, senior Andrew McNeice, senior Shane Lange, and junior Ken Okwuosa have been announced as members of the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Football All-Stars. Albert and and McNeice were both named to the First Team, while Lange and Okwuosa each earned Second Team honors.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University graduate student Rob LaRiviere-Tougas has been announced as the winner of this week’s Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Division II-III Gold Helmet Award by the New England Football Writers. The award is given weekly to the player with the most outstanding performance among all Division II and III football players in the entire New England region.
Seahawks capture ECAC North-West Bowl with 26-6 victory over Lancers

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Led by senior Shane Lange the Salve Regina University defense held Worcester State to just 173 total yards, including just 35 yards in the opening half, on their way to a 26-6 victory over the Lancers during the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North-West Bowl at Gaudet Field on Saturday afternoon. It was the first ECAC Bowl victory for the Seahawks since the 1998 season, improving the team to 8-3 overall, which marks their best record since 1999.

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University football team has earned an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) North-West Bowl selection, as announced by ECAC director of sport administration, Ben Layton on Sunday night. The Seahawks will host Worcester State this Saturday (12 p.m.) at Gaudet Field in what will mark the program’s first ECAC Bowl appearance since 1999.

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University football team earned 11 New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Boyd Division selections, as announced by conference commissioner Sue Lauder on Thursday night. Senior A.J. Albert, freshman Benjamin Barrett, sophomore Richie Edwards, senior Shane Lange, senior Andrew McNeice, and junior Ken Okwuosa each were selected to the All-Boyd Division First Team, while juniors Anthony Hannon, Daniel Kehew, Max Schubert, and William Regan were named to the All-Boyd Division Second Team. In addition, freshman Phil Terio and senior Andrew McNeice earned special honors as the Boyd Division Defensive Rookie of the Year and Offensive Lineman of the Year, respectively.

DUDLEY, Mass. - First year kicker Mark Moore (Hattiesburg, Miss.) kicked three field goals, including a 45-yarder into the wind as the Salve Regina University football team fended off a late comeback attempt by host Nichols College in a 37-27 New England Football Conference Boyd Division victory at Vendetti Field Saturday afternoon. The game marked the season finale for both squads.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Freshman quarterback Bradley Skeffington accounted for three touchdowns to lead the Salve Regina University football team to a 36-13 victory over the Massachusetts Institute of Technology during Senior Day at Gaudet Field on Saturday afternoon. The win was the third straight for the Seahawks who improve to 5-3 overall and 3-2 during Boyd Division play. The loss drops the Engineers to 1-6 on the season and 0-5 in the division.

The Seahawks improve to 4-3 overall and even their New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division record at 2-2. Curry falls to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Boyd Division play.
