NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University football senior Nick Jentz (Little Ferry, N.J.) participated in the 2010 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Senior Scout Bowl this past Saturday at Faller Field in Middletown, N.Y.

Jentz - who played in the D3 Football Senior Classic on Saturday, December 4 in Salem, Va. - was invited to the FCS game early last week. He dressed for the North side, which suffered a 13-12 loss to the South at the inaugural event. The FCS Senior Scout Bowl is organized by the Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) and showcased the talent of FCS Division senior football players. Eighty-six players composed the two teams.

"To play with the best in the FCS was a great privilege," said Jentz. "Being around people who will be playing at the next level left me with memories I'll never forget. To go out there and test your talents against players at a higher level is something that everyone here wants to do, and I was just lucky enough to get that opportunity."

This past fall, Jentz was third on the Seahawks with 69 tackles (38 solo) and 6.0 sacks, which was second on the team and sixth in the conference. He also registered 10.5 tackles for loss. He was a key member of a Salve Regina defense which finished first in the NEFC in scoring defense (11.1 ppg), rush defense (94.3 ypg), and total defense (227.5 ypg).

The Seahawks were only team in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) to allow less than 100 yards rushing/game (94.3). While posting a league-best +14 in turnover margin, they were one of only two schools (Endicott) to finish above +10. The Seahawks also sacked opposing signal-callers a league-high 34 times, which was nine more than its closest competitor (Endicott, 25). Entering last weekend, the Seahawks ranked third nationally in scoring defense (11.0 ppg), fourth in total defense (227.5 ypg), ninth in turnover margin (1.40), 10th in pass defense efficiency (91.79), and 13th in sacks (3.30).
