St. Onge named NEFC Player of the Week for second time

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior quarterback Jeff St. Onge (Kingston, N.H.) has been named New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Player of the Week. He shares the honor with Justin Walz of Western New England.

St. Onge completed 16-of-23 passes for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also rushed for 61 yards and a pair of scores in the Seahawks 28-17 win over MIT on Saturday. He threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to junior Nick Piscitelli (North Haven, Conn.), an 18-yard scoring strike to senior Matt Shubert (West Bridgewater, Mass.), and scored on touchdown runs of one and 11 yards. In the process, he moved into a third-place tie with Lee Caouette (1993-94) on Salve Regina's all-time rushing touchdown list with 20.

After eight weeks of competition, St. Onge leads the conference in passing yards (1,817) and total offense (2,246). He leads Jesse Karr of Coast Guard Academy by 409 yards in total offense and by 234 passing yards.

St. Onge's selection marks the second time this season he has shared Offensive Player of the Week honors. Last month, he shared the same honor with Justin Fuller of Bridgewater State and Dave Leach of Framingham State after tossing for 320 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Endicott.

Additionally, Salve Regina junior C.J. Hein (East Sandwich, Mass.) was named to the NEFC Honor Roll after recording 10 tackles (three solo) and one interception, which he returned 36 yards, against the Engineers on Saturday.

The Seahawks (4-4, 3-2 NEFC) return to action on Saturday when they host Western New England at noon at Gaudet Field.
