#6/7 Seahawks sweep Beavers, 7-3 and 8-5

NEWPORT, R.I. (Sunday, April 14, 2024) - Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, Conn.) rocked two home runs and two doubles while going 4-for-7 with four ribbies to lead Salve Regina University baseball (21-4, 8-1 NEWMAC) to a sweep of Babson College, 7-3 and 8-5, in NEWMAC action at rainy Reynolds Field in Newport.

Yaworski's first plate appearance of the day was as a pinch-hitter in game one in the in the sixth inning when he launched an opposite-field blast. Senior outfielder Brandon Grover (Ashland, Mass.) went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and four driven in including a two-run homer in the nightcap after the Beavers (14-8, 6-2 NEWMAC) tied the score in game two. Tyler Cannoe (Schenectady, N.Y.) had multiple hits in both games and finished 4-for-8 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

Seahawk starter Sean Mulligan (Verona, N.J.) went seven innings in the opener allowing just three hits, no earned runs, and striking out six to improve to 6-1 on the season. Junior Jason Arrigo (Basking Ridge, N.J.) pitched five innings in relief to earn the win (W, 6-1) in game two while Tyler DelVecchio (Scotch Plains, N.J.) got the final out for his first save.

All-Time Series: After splitting a doubleheader in Florida in 2008, Babson had won five straight meetings including twice in the 2017 NCAA Division III Regionals in Harwichport, Massachusetts. Babson leads the all-time series, 14-7, but Salve Regina wins the first two NEWMAC meetings between the two schools.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Hunter Yaworski became the third Seahawk to hit multiple home runs in a day in 2024 - Tyler Petrosino and Shane Williams both went yard twice in a 21-10 win over Wisconsin Oshkosh.
  • Brandon Grover scored three runs from the leadoff spot to take over the team lead in runs scored (27).
  • After going hitless in his last two games (ending a 34-game hit streak), Christian Homa singled in both games today to raise his season total to 40 hits.
  • Matt D'Amato has a 10-game hit streak and now has 191 career hits.
  • Jason Arrigo had his longest outing of the season and struck out seven for the third time in conference play (Springfield, MIT, Babson).
