Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior pitcher Andrew Roman (Monson, Mass.) recorded the final six outs, four by strikeout in a 4-3 victory for the Salve Regina University baseball team in Game 2 of a split with visiting rival Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Series and Streaks
This was the first meeting between Salve Regina and Roger Williams since the Seahawks claimed the CCC Championship versus the Hawks in 2019. The Seahawks now own a 51-32-1 record all-time versus the Hawks.

Three Stars of the Day

  1. Roger Williams senior Chris Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) came on in relief in Game 1 to record the final eight outs, five by way of strikeout to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the season.
  2. Salve Regina senior Andrew Roman was tasked with the final two innings of Game 2 and recorded four strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 1-0.
  3. Salve Regina senior Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) was responsible for driving in all four of the Seahawks runs in Game 2.

Turning Points
In Game 1 a Matt Massaro (Fairfield, Conn.) double capped a 3-run top of the sixth which saw the Hawks score three runs on two hits to go from down one to leading 4-2. Salve Regina threatened in the bottom of the seventh with bases loaded and one out, but Flynn got a flyout and strikeout to close the door on a Seahawks comeback.

In Game 2 it was the Seahawks who scored three runs in the sixth, this time via a bases clearing double from Ciesko to break a scoreless tie. The Hawks clawed back with two in the seventh and tied it in the eighth off a Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) RBI single. In the bottom of the eighth it was once again Cieszko who came through for the Seahawks with a perfectly placed bunt which scored the go-ahead run. In the ninth Roman got a groundout and fanned two more to close out the 4-3 win.
