NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University baseball team makes its fourth straight appearance in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championship series, traveling to Bristol, R.I., face Roger Williams University for a best-of-three series. Both teams have four-game win streaks entering the championship series. Salve Regina seeks its 10th title all-time (first in 1987; most recent in 2017), and Roger Williams seeks its second championship and first since 2002. The Hawks swept a pair against the Seahawks (6-1 and 14-4) in Bristol on May 5, 2002, to win their only CCC baseball crown.

LAST TIME OUT FOR SALVE REGINA – SALVE REGINA 5, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 3  - MAY 6, 2019

  • The Seahawks welcomed May back by welcoming Patrick Maybach (Saunderstown, R.I.) to its starting rotation, just in time to pitch 6.1 innings and lead the Seahawks into their fourth-straight CCC championship series.
  • The Seahawks plated five runs in the top of the third. Senior All-CCC OF and Player of the Year Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.) knocked in the first run with All-CCC SS Madden Ward(Clinton, Conn.) scoring from third. All-CCC OF Michael DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.) followed with a single to center to bring home All-CCC C Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.) and the Seahawks took the lead. Colton Eremian (Boca Raton, Fla.) walked with two outs to load the bases. All-CCC 2B Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) drilled a 3-2 pitch into center for a bases-clearing double and a 5-1 lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Zac Nussbaum singled down the right field line to score Ben LaCroix with the Golden Bears' second run. Western New England added another unearned run in the seventh that knocked Maybach out of the game after throwing 118 pitches.
  • Enter Saturday's hero, Will Ginsberg (Sharon, Mass.). Facing elimination two days ago, the senior lefty had thrown 88 pitches in a 3-2 victory for the Seahawks, allowing just four hits to the Golden Bears, to force Monday's showdown in the Pod A Final. Today he worked the final 2.2 frames to record his second save of the season (first since opening day on February 22) and retired seven of 10 Golden Bears he faced including three strikeouts. Similar to Saturday, Monday's savior got the final two outs on a double-play grounder with the bases loaded, this time on his 39th pitch.

LAST TIME OUT FOR ROGER WILLIAMS -  ROGER WILLIAMS 11, ENDICOTT 10 - MAY 4, 2019

  • Roger Williams held a 9-6 lead heading into the ninth inning, but the Gulls scored three runs to tie the game and force extra innings.
  • In the top of the 12th the Gulls took a 10-9 lead, however the Hawks responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to walk off with the victory and eliminate the Gulls.

ROGER THAT

  • Connor Hewlette was selected as CCC Pitcher of the Year while earning a spot on the All-CCC First Team.
  • Chris Bosco, also an All-CCC First Team selection, was named CCC Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Danny Roth and Justin Stone also were selected to the All-CCC First Team.
  • Chosen to the All-CCC Second Team were Eli Camner and Craig Demers.
  • Named to the All-CCC Third Team were Anthony Dominguez, Justin Garcia, and Joey Gulino.
  • The Hawks have made seven championships in their history, claiming the 2002 title. They most recently appeared in the championship series in 2015 when they fell to Curry College.
