NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Michael DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.) as its Rookie of the Week for baseball (March 26 - April 1).

CCC Rookie of the Week - DeFusco batted .429 this week after being moved up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order. He recorded hits in each of Salve Regina's three games including a pair of multi-hit games to close out the week. He had three hits against Framingham State and also scored two runs and drove in a pair. He also stole two bases. He had a three-RBI game to close out the week as the Seahawks defeated Suffolk, 7-6.

Fifth-year head coach of the two-time defending conference champs, Eric Cirella, says, "Michael has really stepped up for us at the dish as well as being thrown into a new position. He competes well, and when he is locked in with his approach, he is a very good hitter. I can't say enough good things about him to be honest. He has listened to his coaches as far as adjustments that had to be made and has really fine tuned his swing to be a productive player for us. The sky is the limit for him, he just needs to keep working his tail off and good things will follow."

The Seahawks (6-7, 0-0 CCC) will begin regular-season conference play this weekend.
