CCC Player of the Week: John Militano

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference has selected Salve Regina University junior John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) as its Player of the Week for baseball (April 17-23).

Player of the Week - Militano had a stellar week in the leadoff spot for Salve Regina as the Seahawks went 7-1 and clinched the CCC regular-season title. Militano had multi-hit games in seven of his team's eight contests this week and also drove in a run in all but one game. He batted .500/.526/.647 with five doubles, six runs scored, and nine RBI. He also swiped four bases and only struck out once in 34 at-bats.

"Mili has been outstanding for us all year and now he is starting to drive the ball to all fields and is really the guy who gets our offense going," remarked fourth-year head coach Eric Cirella. "He can beat you in so many ways - but speed is certainly his best asset. Pitchers are worried about him and you can see our middle of the order guys getting better pitches to hit. Defensively, he's been outstanding and his leadership and energy are second to none. Watch him run around and play the game and I will tell guys, 'That's how I want everyone to play.'  He's just an exciting kid to watch and a well-liked kid overall - which makes him easy to root for as a teammate."

The Seahawks sweep of Wentworth on Sunday, coupled with the Colonels of Curry College losing a pair at Nichols, gave Salve Regina (27-5, 12-0 CCC) the CCC regular season title. The Seahawks next play at Rhode Island College on Wednesday April 26 at 3:30 p.m.
