No. 14 St. Scholastica blanks Salve Regina in Florida

FT. PIERCE, Fla. - Salve Regina University baseball (3-5) loaded the bases with one out in the 1st inning but ended up on the losing side of a 12-0 score against the College of St. Scholastica (7-1) in non-league spring action at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla.

 

Senior infielder Charles Matarazzo (Montville, N.J.) led off the game with a single off the pitching hand of Saints starter Kyle Jensen. Anthony Conte (Georgetown, Mass.) bunted Matarazzo over to second before Alexander Melcher (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error and Tom Glynn (Woodbridge, Conn.) got a free pass by being hit by a pitch.

 

Jensen caught the next Seahawk batter looking at strike three and excaped trouble with a fielder's choice grounder.

 

After scoring single runs in the first two innings, St. Scholastica plated six runs in its third at bat.

 

Jensen allowed just Matarazzo's lead off hit over his six innings of work. Brian Houdek hurled the final three innings for the No. 14 Saints.

 

Alexander Trammell (Londonderry, N.H.) hit a two-out single up the middle in the 8th while Tyler Colby (Easton, Conn.) connected on his first collegiate basehit with a line drive to centerfield.

Salve Regina plays the final two games of its spring trip with a doubleheader versus Oswego State at Holman Stadium at Vero Beach Sports Village, fomerly Dodgertown.
