Seahawks land 31 on two-season academic team

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University has landed 31 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2012-13 Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced Friday, June 7 by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. This is the first time the honor has been separated into two seasons - fall and winter/spring. In total, 299 student-athletes representing all 10 member institutions were selected for the Fall Academic All-Conference Team.

Of the honorees, 79 were either first team, second team, or honorable mention All-CCC selections in their sport these past two seasons.

Also noteworthy is that the Athlete(s) of the Year in six of the CCC winter/spring sports received Academic All-Conference laurels, including men's basketball Defensive Player of the Year Hans Miersma (Gordon), women's basketball Defensive Player of the Year Kaitlyn Birrell (Salve Regina), men's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year Adam Knapton (Western New England), men's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year Sam Ozycz (Endicott), women's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year Holly Davis (Endicott), softball Pitcher of the Year Nell O'Connor (Endicott), softball Player of the Year Lauren Tierney (Roger Williams), men's tennis Player of the Year Zack Bussiere (Roger Williams), and men's tennis Rookie of the Year Zach Hall (Gordon).
