Storm postpones Seahawk games

With indoor facilities, winter sports are rarely affected by the weather. But the forecasted storm for this weekend has forced postponements for all Seahawk events.
With indoor facilities, winter sports are rarely affected by the weather. But the forecasted storm for this weekend has forced postponements for all Seahawk events.

NEWPORT, R.I. - The National Weather Service predicts that light snow will develop in the Newport area early Friday morning, with heavier snowfall developing over the region in the afternoon. The evening rush hour will become treacherous, with 1-2 inches per hour developing.

Heavy snow along with blizzard conditions will occur Friday night through Saturday morning with 2-3 inches per hour of snow expected.

Coastal areas such as Newport will also experience high winds and potential power outages with the worst conditions being Friday night through Saturday afternoon.

Salve Regina University has announced school will be closed on Friday. The following athletic events have also been affected:

Friday, February 8 
Women’s Ice Hockey @ Manhattanville (Stamford, Conn. - Terry Conners Rink) – Changed to Wed., 2/13 @ 3 p.m. 

Saturday, February 9
Women’s and Men’s Basketball @ Gordon (Wenham, Mass.) – Changed to Sun., 2/10 @ 5 & 7 p.m. 
Women’s Ice Hockey @ Nichols (Harrisville, R.I. -  Levy Rink) – Changed to Mon., 2/18 @ 8:10 p.m.
Men’s Ice Hockey vs. Western New England (Home – Portsmouth Abbey) - Changed to Sun. 2/10 @ 8:35 p.m.; this game was preceded by a men’s ice hockey alumni game beginning at 5 p.m. - CANCELED
Student spectator bus to men’s ice hockey game – Changed to Sun., 2/10 and departs Rodgers Recreation Center @ 7:45 p.m.
