Week at a Glance: Seahawks ? November 29 - December 5, 2021

NEWPORT, R.I. (November 29, 2021) - Over 3,000 points in the SeahawkTalk™ studio on Monday!

LET'S GO, SEAHAWKS!

MONDAY (Nov. 29)
Join us for live conversation on our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitch, YouTube) as SeahawkTalk™ reboots in Season Four (5 p.m.) with co-hosts Kiely Callahan and Jeremy Gutierrez. The Seahawk seniors welcome three members from men's basketball - Cameron Collins, Kevin Kelly, and Mikey Spencer - who have each scored over 1,000 points in their respective careers; the latter two almost reaching the milestone in the same game.

WEDNESDAY (Dec. 1)
Salve Regina women's basketball (1-5) opens the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule tonight (5:30 p.m.) hosting Nichols College. The Seahawks and Bison are meeting for the 52nd time with Salve Regina holding a 40-11 advantage in the all-time series, including wins in the last two meetings in 2020. On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Eastern Nazarene College visited the Rodgers Recreation Center and won, 71-59. The visitors erupted out of the gate with a 7-0 lead in the first minute of play and forcing three turnovers. After Amanda Folan stole an interior pass from the Lions, Gabby Sousa fed Megan Henaghan from the baseline to the top left of the key for the first Seahawk points of the game. A 3-pointer from Morgan Shuey at 4:04 in the first brought the Seahawks within two (11-9) before Folan tied it on a fastbreak layup.

Salve Regina men's basketball (4-2) won its fourth straight game with a triumph over Connecticut College by a score of 80-65 last Tuesday night. The Seahawks took the lead five minutes into the game and did not look back. A large lead in rebounds set the visitors up with seven more field goal attempts than the Camels throughout the first half of play and allowed them to jump out to an early 13-point lead. The Seahawks were fueled by 13 first-half points by Kevin Kelly and 10 from Mikey Spencer, as they entered halftime ahead of the Camels by a score of 35-22. Seahawks split with the Bison in 2020, before Nichols went on to win its fourth straight conference title.

FRIDAY (Dec. 3)
Salve Regina men's ice hockey (5-4, 4-2 CCC) split a pair of games with NESCAC opponents over the Thanksgiving weekend. On Saturday against Trinity College, the Seahawks were blanked by the Bantams, 4-0. Seth Benson scored three times in the second period for his first career hat trick to help Salve Regina to a 4-1 victory over Wesleyan University in non-conference action Sunday afternoon. Braeden Young put the Seahawks up 1-0 with his first-period goal. Nicholas Latinovich posted 22 saves in the victory. The Seahawks skate in Boston (7 p.m.) against Suffolk University in a reacquaintance with the newest CCC members. Salve Regina has a 15-11-3 all-time mark versus the Rams with many dates coinciding as co-members of previous conferences.

SATURDAY (Dec. 4)
Salve Regina women's basketball continues a three-game stretch against CCC foes when it travels to Beverly, Mass., to tip-off against Endicott College (1 p.m.). Cori Hughes and the Seahawks have an 18-17 mark in the all-time series with the Gulls.

Seahawk men's basketball follows the women's game against the Gulls (3 p.m.) at the Post Center in MacDonald Gymnasium. Salve Regina won the last meeting, 98-89, on the same floor on February 11, 2020.

Salve Regina women's ice hockey (1-7, 1-3 CCC) faced off against the Cardinals of Wesleyan University twice last week - a 3-1 loss at home on Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and then a 2-0 loss on the road on Sunday. In the pre-Thanksgiving meeting, Salve Regina senior Madison Jalbert made a season-high 41 saves to fall to 1-5-0 between the pipes. The Cardinals outshot and dominated possession for most of the game, however Emma Gotthelf scored on a breakaway at 7:24 of the third to put the Seahawks on the board and shift some momentum Salve's way. Despite the third period push the Seahawks could not find the back of the net again and the Cardinals regained their footing, keeping play in the Seahawks' end to prevent them from pulling the goalie in the final minutes. Salve Regina plays against Suffolk University for the first time ever in women's ice hockey (4:50 p.m.).

Salve Regina University men's ice hockey, in partnership with the Movember Foundation and Newport Mental Health, are hosting their inaugural Mental Health Awareness Night when the Seahawks host Suffolk University at St. George's (8 p.m.) for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup on December 4.

Most people know Movemeber by their annual event of growing Mustaches during the month of November, but the foundation is more than just that. Movember aims to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The goal of Movember is to change the face of men's health. SUNDAY (Dec. 5)
Salve Regina and Suffolk women's ice hockey meet at St. George's with a 1 p.m. face off. [REMINDER: All spectators must show proof of vaccination and wear masks in the arena].
