Salve Regina lands 83 on Academic All-Conference Team

ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE HISTORY

NEWPORT, R.I. (June 29, 2020) - Salve Regina University has landed 83 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) 2019-20 Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Team, announced by Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. Six hundred eleven Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) student-athletes were named to the league's Spring Academic All-Conference Team on Monday afternoon. The fall list includes participants from each of the CCC's member institutions who participated in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, men's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's tennis, and men's and women's track and field.

The Academic All-Conference Team consists of any starter or significant reserve who has attained at least sophomore status at start of competition and has maintained an overall minimum GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00. This is the seventh time the honor has been separated into two seasons - fall and spring.

Included among the honorees were the three winter CCC Scholar-Athlete award winners in their respective sports. Salve Regina's Tyler Benjamin (Fitchburg, Mass.) won the award in men's basketball, while Meghan Orbann (East Hampton, Conn.) from Western New England took home the award on the women's side. The University of New England's Ryan Bloom (Northville, Mich.) was the men's ice hockey recipient.

Three members of this year's Spring Academic All-Conference Team were also major award winners in the winter. Bloom added the Player of the Year honor to his list of accomplishments in men's ice hockey, while Endicott's Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) won Goaltender of the Year. Gordon's Sarah Gibbs (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was the women's basketball Defensive Player of the Year.

Each of the major award winners was also members of their respective All-Conference teams. Overall there were 27 Academic All-CCC members who were also named All-Conference honorees. Of those 11 were First Teamers, 11 were Second Teamers, and five were named to the Third Team.

Due to the cancellation of the spring season, no postseason awards were given for any of the conference's spring sports.
