ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE HISTORY
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – A record-setting 579 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) student-athletes were honored on Monday morning as the league announced its Spring Academic All-Conference Team. The spring list includes participants from each of the CCC's member institutions who participated in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, men's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's tennis, and women's track and field. Competitors in the men's and women's swimming and diving and men's track and field invitationals were also honored.
In order to be recognized as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore academic status.
Included among the honorees are the 10 winners of the Senior Scholar-Athlete awards in their respective sports. Three of the Senior Scholar-Athletes on this spring's list came from Wentworth with Tim Elrick (Plymouth, Mass.) being recognized in baseball, Sam Knollmeyer (Hampton, N.H.) in men's basketball, and Rachel Willcutt (Tilton, N.H.) in softball. Meanwhile, Roger Williams and Western New England each had two of this year's award winners. The Hawks' Anna Walther (Northhampton, Mass.) and Makayla D'Urso (Londonderry, N.H.) were the honorees in women's basketball and women's track and field, respectively. Golfer John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and men's ice hockey player Matt Audet (Campbell, Calif.) represented the Golden Bears. Gordon's Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) was the honoree in men's tennis, Nichols' Steven Moutsoulas (Salem, Mass.) was the winner in men's lacrosse, and Salve Regina's Katie Kline (Brookfield, Conn.) was selected in women's lacrosse.
Salve Regina placed 80 individuals on the team, second-most in the conference, including junior Kerri Beland (No. Attleboro, Mass.) who represented the Seahawks on two sports (women's basketball and women's lacrosse). Two spring sport athletes - Kevin Brocks (Albany, N.Y.) and Katie Kline (Brookfield, Conn.) - also earned the Salve Regina honor for highest grade point average for a male and female senior Seahawk, respectively.
