WENHAM, Mass. – Junior Maddie Mildrum (Hingham, Mass.), sophomore Bre Shipman (New Canaan, Conn.) and senior Izabella Kuczorski (Simsbury, Conn.) led Salve Regina to a split in the Battle of the North Shore on Thursday.

The meet, traditionally a season-opening showdown between Gordon College and Endicott College, has expanded to include the Seahawks in recent years. Scored as dual meets, Endicott topped Salve Regina, 22-32; Salve Regina defeated Gordon, 25-34; and Endicott beat Gordon, 24-37. Scored in an open format, Endicott finished first with a score of 32, with Salve Regina (42) second and Gordon (56) third.

The Seahawks quickly formed a pack from the start of the 5,000-meter race, with junior Heather McKee (Churchton, Md.) leading a group that included Shipman and Mildrum. Kuczorski and junior Olivia Forbes (North Attleboro, Mass.) were just seconds behind. Shipman picked up the pace in the middle mile, with Mildrum pulling ahead in the final stretch. The Seahawk scorers managed a spread of 40 seconds from their No. 1. to No. 5 runners.

Gordon junior Rachel Brennan raced to a commanding victory, crossing the finish line at 18:51.7. Brennan claimed the lead from the start and never relinquished it. Endicott freshman Hannah Shepard finished second in 19:47, while Gordon sophomore Carolyn Day was third in 20:06.
