Seahawks duo makes All-CCC

Siena DeCicco (l) and Brighton Solheim (r) both made All-CCC for women's volleyball.

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its 2022 Women's Volleyball All-Conference Teams and major award winners Tuesday afternoon. Eight of the 10 CCC schools were represented on this year's list. Endicott had the most honorees with six selections.

Among those selected for the Gulls was graduate student Amanda Gilbert (West Falmouth, Mass.) who took home this year's top on-court prize as the CCC Player of the Year. Suffolk and Wentworth student-athletes were also the recipients of major awards as Rams senior Kenzley Bell (Lake Park, Ga.) as name Libero of the Year and Leopards freshman Riley Schoonmaker (Montgomery, N.Y.) was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Western New England's Sarah Scott (Granby, Mass.) was the last student-athlete to take home hardware as she was named the 2022 CCC Scholar-Athlete. Gordon's Sue Kelly was the CCC Coach of the Year and Curry won the Team Sportsmanship award.

Salve Regina University saw two of its members honored with an All-Conference spot. Sophomore setter Siena DeCicco was named to the third team while junior outside hitter Brighton Solheim makes her second All-CCC squad and was named to the first team.

Head coach Sebastian Noordzy on his honorees:

Brighton Solheim – 1st team All-CCC

"Brighton continues to shine at Salve Regina. After a third team All-CCC season as an Opposite in 2021, we moved her as one of our six rotation outside hitters and she immediately made her presence felt. She was arguably the conferences most complete player this season, dominating the game both offensively and defensively. She was in the top three in conference Kills/Set, which is an achievement but doing this AND leading all Outside Hitters in Digs/Set and Blocks/Set shows the impact she had on the floor and on our team. She's a major key to our success, not only contributing during game time, but bringing that high level of play into the practice gym and challenging everyone to be their best. She's a role model for our younger players and I can't wait to see her compete with the top players in the NEWMAC.

Siena DeCicco - 3rd team All-CCC

"After not seeing too much time as a setter in her first year in 2021, Siena came back ready to take on more responsibilities. She got her first start versus Connecticut College on September 27 and hasn't looked back since. She used that opportunity to show that she is one of the best distributors in the conference, individually ranking second in Assist/Set and helping our team to first in Kills/Set and third in Hitting percentage. She also was one of the most potent offensive setters in the CCC, scoring 44% of all her attempts with no errors. She has all the physical tools of an elite volleyball player, and as only a sophomore and we're very excited to watch Siena grow more and more as a play caller and leader in our offense."

Voting for the All-CCC Teams and major awards was conducted by the 10 CCC head women's volleyball coaches following the conclusion of the regular season and do not take postseason play into consideration.
