Barry leads Seahawks past Lasell, 3-1; Seahawks 3-0 at home

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) (right) tallied a match-high 16 kills and freshman Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) notched 13 as the Salve Regina University volleyball team remained perfect at home with a 3-1 win over Lasell in non-conference action Thursday evening at Rodgers Recreation Center.

With the win, the Seahawks move to 6-11 on the season and 3-0 at home. They have won three of their last five matches. The Lasers, meanwhile, have dropped three-straight and six of their last seven to fall to 7-11 on the season.

Salve Regina won game one 25-21 behind four kills from Adams and three each from Barry and freshman Jackie Cinquemani (East Islip, N.Y.). Junior Daniell Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) led the Lasers with four.

In game two, senior Lisa Zabel (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Jill Diffendaffer (Centennial, Colo.) each registered three kills to pace SRU to a 25-18 win. The Lasers rallied back to win game three, 25-22 behind four kills from Drapeau, and led early in the fourth game before SRU closed out the match on a 20-9 run.

"JB kept us in the game with her 16 kills and lots of energy," said Salve Regina head coach Lindsay Marshall. "The fans really kept us motivated and hungry when we got down, and they were a big reason we were able to get a win tonight."

Zabel finished with seven kills, 21 assists and 10 digs while Diffendaffer had seven kills and four digs. Sophomore Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallied a match-high 27 digs while Adams finished with 14.

For Lasell, Drapeau finished with 14 kills while freshman Taylor Riley (Greencastle, Pa.) notched 11. Junior Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 32 assists and freshman Sarah Eisenberg (Westfield, Mass.) led the Lasers with 19 digs.

The Seahawks return to action on Sunday when they compete in the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (R.I.A.I.A.W.) at Rhode Island College. They face Johnson & Wales at 10 a.m. and then play a second match against an opponent TBD at noon. The Lasers begin play at the Union Tournament on Friday.
