NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University women's soccer has accepted a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2016 Division III Women's Soccer Region 1 Championship. The Seahawks, seeded second out of four teams, will play Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, November 12 (2 p.m.) in Springfield, Mass., following the host school's game against Curry College.

"We are excited to continue our season," head coach Jane Walsh said. "Along with our men's soccer head coach (Craig O'Rourke II), we had broken down our game and practice fields for the season, and had not anticipated the bid. Pleasantly surprised."

Salve Regina (8-8-3) plays Maine Maritime (9-6-2) for the first time ever in women's soccer. It will be the second appearance in program history (2011) in ECAC postseason. Sophomore Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) and senior Christine Pala (Milford, Conn.) were chosen by Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) head coaches for All-CCC honors after the Seahawks finished sixth in the regular season.
