BRISTOL, R.I. – The Salve Regina University Women Soccer battled in-state conference rival Roger Williams University to a 1-1 double overtime stalemate on Wednesday evening.

The tie snaps a three-game winning streak for Salve Regina, as the Seahawks move to 7-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Roger Williams also has a three-game win streak halted and now sits at 5-3-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the CCC.

The Hawks had the edge on time of possession early on, beginning the game with six shots in the first ten minutes of play. However, RWU was unable to capitalize on any of the shots in the beginning of the first period.

It was not until the 34th minute that the first score of the game occurred, when Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) knocked in a pass from Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) to give RWU a 1-0 lead.

Amy Cripps (Exeter, R.I.) almost tacked on another score for RWU in the final minute of the half, launching a high shot just outside the top of the box that bounced off the crossbar.

In the second half, the Hawk offense continued to put shots on net but they could not find the back of the net. RWU put up six shots in the first 13 minutes of play, four of which were blocked by Salve defenders.

The Seahawks would finally earn a break in the 76th minute, with Anna Shultz (Higganum, Conn.) heading in a pass by Caitlin Eastwood (Seymour, Conn.). Hawk keeper Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) got a hand on the ball but not enough of it to punch it over the net. The ball tipped off her hand and slowly rolled into the right corner to tie the game.

The 1-1 score held up over the remainder of regulation and into the first overtime period. The best opportunity for a win came for Salve Regina in the 103rd minute, when Britt Blanchette (Hope, R.I.) fired a shot on target, but a diving attempt to the left by Jaques nullified the potential game-winner.

Jaques made three saves in the game for the Hawks, while Salve's Jacqueline McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) stopped six shots in the game.

Roger Williams heads to Eastern Nazarene on Saturday for a noon start, while Salve plays the University of New England on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
