NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team notched a 4-1 victory over non-league opponent Salve Regina University at Mirrione Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  Today marked the first meeting between the squads since 1997.

Wheaton moves to 2-0-1 after facing its second Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent.  The Seahawks had their two-game win streak snapped in evening their season mark at 2-2.

Despite holding first-half advantages of 16-1 in shots and 5-0 in corner kicks,  Wheaton didn't have anything to show in the scoring column until 50 seconds remained, when senior Cassey Muse (Candia, N.H./Central) made her first appearance of the season a memorable one.  Freshman Cat Amick (Vashon, Wash./Vashon Island), who had a goal and an assist on the day, set up Muse with a left-footed cross into the box, where Muse headed home the pass.

Just 1:45 into the second frame, Seahawk senior Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I./Scituate) knotted the contest after sending her shot into the lower left corner of the net following a free kick by graduate student Caitlin Eastwood (Seymour, Conn./Seymour).

The hosts put the game out of reach with a pair of goals 2:04 apart, as sophomore Lauren Corigliano (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) converted Muse's cross at 54:06 and classmate Gabriella Verde (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) took advantage of a Salve handball by depositing her penalty-kick shot into the back of the net at 56:10.

In the 84th minute, Amick tacked on some extra insurance with Wheaton's fourth goal on a feed from freshman Kristin Caney (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield).  First-year goalie Taylor Wilson (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) started the game and made one first-half stop before classmate Ali Hinton (Lafayette, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) turned aside one shot in collecting her first collegiate win.  Seahawk junior Jacqueline McPherson (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) made 11 saves in defeat.

The Seahawks return to the pitch on Tuesday to face Rhode Island College at home.
