Seahawks blanked by Gordon in regular-season finale

WENHAM, Mass. - The Gordon women's soccer team will head into the playoffs on a high note after defeating conference rival Salve Regina 2-0 on the quad at Gordon.

The win extends a four-game unbeaten streak for Gordon and moved them to 9-8-1 overall with an 8-4-1 conference mark. Salve Regina drops to 11-7 overall, with an 8-5 record in TCCC play.

After a scoreless first half, the Scots struck first early in the second when Hala Coker score off a corner kick. After receiving the corner at the top of the box from Kelly Donlan, senior Christen Peters found Coker on her left. The sophomore defender blasted the shot home from close range for her first goal of the season, giving Gordon a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute.

The lead remained at one until the 69th minute when Gordon freshman Caitlin Nedde broke down the left wing and fired a long shot on goal. The ball was misplayed by the Seahawk goakeeper and slipped into the back of the net, giving Gordon a 2-0 lead. It was Nedde's 13th goal of the season.

The Seahawks challenged often as freshman Kaitlyn Birrell (Hope, R.I.) tallied six shots on goal, but Gordon goalkeeper Abby Ytzen was up to the test. Salve Regina had a flurry of late corner kicks in the final minutes of the match but were unable to capitalize.

Gordon and Salve Regina will both await its playoff matches on Saturday against opponents which are still to be determined.
